BAFTA’s 2015 – Girls on Film’s Predictions

o-BAFTA-TV-AWARDS-facebook

It’s that time of year again, come around oh so quickly hasn’t it? We at Girls On Film wanted to share with you our predictions/hopes for all the big gongs tonight at the UK’s most prestigious filmic awards ceremony.

Will it be a clean sweep for brits? Will there be some big shockers? Will there be a mid ceremony protest about the exclusion of Timothy Spall from Best Actor category??!?!

This years Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award is going to BBC Films and Mike Leigh is receiving the Fellowship.

Acting

Leading Actor

In all likelihood it will be Eddie Redmayne for THEORY OF EVERYTHING. Bafta often choose a brit over American counterparts and we suspect this year will be no different.

Leading Actress

Julianne Moore seems a shoo-in, and fully deserves it for her role in STILL ALICE

Supporting

J.K.Simmons for WHIPLASH, and for the girls wouldn’t it be great if Imelda Staunton brought it home for PRIDE?

EE Rising Star

Toss up this year between Jack O’Connell and Miles Teller

Animation

Although we would love THE BOXTROLLS to win (duh trolls and cheese), we suspect Disney will take home the golden head for BIG HERO 6

Writing

Original Screenplay

Gonna be BOYHOOD isn’t it?

Adapted Screenplay

Will Gillian Flynn get her hands on the prize for GONE GIRL? My money’s with Graham Moore for THE IMITATION GAME

Outstanding Debut By A British Writer, Director Or Producer

Fingers crossed for Elaine Constantine for NORTHERN SOUL

Director

I think it’s going to be a pretty clean sweep for BOYHOOD this year,

Best Film

Foreign Language

LEVIATHAN has everyone talking and is likely to do well tonight.

Documentary

20 FEET FROM STARDOM won the Oscar last year, so can it have the same success? Or will CITIZENFOUR triumph.

British

Hopefully PRIDE will get the recognition it deserves in this category, however it is likely that bigger budget films like THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING or THE IMITATION GAME will take home the prize.

Film

BOYHOOD is the most obvious and deserving winner. 12 years is a very long time to remain faithful in something that has never been done before, and producers were having to invest with very little knowledge that this film would work, and it did.

So there you have it, our predictions for tonight….what do you think?
